He hadn’t asked to be turned into what he was – a vampire with a soul. Angel was cursed with it, and hated it for a century before he learned to live a different life. The soul had changed him, but it wasn’t anything he would have wished for.
Certainly, it wasn’t anything he would’ve fought for. Not the way Spike had gone up against Demon Trials to earn a soul of his very own. Whatever reasons he may have had, the first time he saw Angel after he got his soul he asked, “Not so novel now, are you, Peaches?”
