Summary: The things that weren’t there always stole the show.
The first thing Dean saw, moving through the doors of the old barn, wasn’t Castiel. It was his shadow.
As the lights blew one by one, shadows were cast all over the walls. Dean could see them even as he concentrated on emptying his weapon.
His own shadow, falling over Bobby’s prone figure on the floor.
The shadow of magnificent wings, a picture that Dean would never forget as long as he lived.
He didn’t know, now, how long that would be.
Every day he felt more and more like a shadow himself. Eventually, he figured, the light would turn and he’d disappear.
