I'm very, very sure he's not. I think he's too big of a character for them to just kill off like that, so. My opinion is he serves as the vessel for the main leviathan, who's refered to but not shown... and in the end, they'll kill the leviathan and THEN Castiel will live or die.
Hm. D and I were just discussing this, and he said "no one's ever really dead dead on Supernatural." So that sort of made me feel better. I think he's right. Misha's too much of a fan favorite to go out like that.
