FIC - Give It Back
Jul. 25th, 2011 08:50 pmTITLE: Give It Back
AUTHOR: Veruca ( verucasalt123)
FANDOM: Supernatural
PROMPT: Amulet
RATING: PG
WORD COUNT: ~300
SUMMARY: Sam’s not sure about how to give Dean the amulet back.
SPOILERS/WARNINGS: Nothing specific.
AUTHOR'S NOTES: Just a tiny ficlet.
I just kept it. He didn’t see me retrieve it from where it had been discarded, and I wasn’t ever sure when it was the right time, or if there would ever be a right time to return it to him. Fuck, to be honest, I couldn’t be certain that he even wanted it back after everything that had happened. But it had been safely tucked away in my duffle while I was…gone…and he’d never looked through my things, just kept them stowed in the trunk of the Impala.
We were in New Mexico where it was warm even in November, and watching him sleep in just his boxers I looked over his broad, strong chest and it just didn’t seem right without it. So much had happened, we had gained and lost more than either of us ever thought possible, but he just didn’t look right without it.
Soundlessly, I made my way across the room and pulled it from the bottom of my bag before moving back toward the place where he was sleeping. Gently, quietly, I moved his head up just a bit from his pillow and pulled the leather cord over his head, letting the amulet I’d given him all those years before, when we were children who couldn’t imagine what laid ahead for us, fall onto his chest. Back to the place where it belonged, right over his heart.
I could only hope that he wouldn’t tear it off when he woke up.

Date: 2011-08-02 03:28 am (UTC)I still mourn the samulet. When Dean threw it away, I was sure we would see it again, but Kripke seems tired of it, lol.
Good thing we have fics like this one :)
