A conversation with my daughter
Feb. 3rd, 2006 08:29 amThis is paraphrased, obviously, but it was something like this:
(Mom is cooking ground beef on the stove)
"I feel sorry for that pig."
"Sweetie, ground beef comes from cows, not pigs."
"Then I feel sorry for the cow."
"Why?"
"Because it had to die so we could eat it."
"Well, pumpkin, we do use animals for food."
"I don't think that's right. We shouldn't get meat from animals."
"Well, there's no other place to get it. I mean, you can't make steak out of anything except for a cow. That's just how it works, baby."
"So you can't get meat if you don't kill an animal for it?"
"Right."
"Oh. Well, I guess it's OK then."
